Bringing People to Jesus
Everybody likes a good
story. We particularly like a good story
with a good ending. Such story is found
in Mark 2:1-12. It seems Jesus had come
home to Capernaum and was teaching to a standing room only crowd. The Bible says Jesus was teaching the message
and during His time on earth, Jesus taught the same message. His message was to repent of your sins and
find hope, help, and healing in a relationship with God through Jesus.
While Jesus was teaching, four men came to the
house carrying their friend who really needed to see Jesus because their friend
was paralyzed. They knew that their
friend needed Jesus because Jesus could meet every need this paralyzed man
had. He had physical, personal,
practical, and eternal needs; Jesus could meet every one. But they had to get him to Jesus.
Getting through the crowd was impossible because
the crowd was standing in the way of getting this man to Jesus. Today we witness the same problem; “people
who stand in the way of others getting to Jesus.”
Every time I read this story my prayer is the
same, “Lord, don’t let me stand in the way of someone coming to Jesus.” To think about it is to know that there exist
a myriad of ways for me to keep someone from getting to Jesus.
These four men didn’t give up. They carried their friend up on the roof,
next tore a hole in the roof, and then lowered him down to Jesus who healed the
man of his paralysis AND forgave his sin.
Not only did Jesus take care of his earthly needs so that he walked off
carrying the mat, but also his eternal needs.
For the person who met Jesus and has his/her sins
forgiven there exists an expectation of bringing people to meet Him.
The most familiar verse in the Bible says, “God
loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever
believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”
One thing is sure; ‘everybody dies.’ For those who have met Jesus, death is but a
move from earth to heaven. Let us be a
part of the team who brings people to Jesus.
